On April 5, 2023, Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R), Supporting Families Together Association, and Raising Wisconsin participated in a Child Care Advocacy Day in Madison, Wisconsin. CCR&R utilized the awarded DEY grant funds to allow childcare providers to attend the Child Care Advocacy Day in Madison, Wisconsin.
Selected childcare providers were tasked with creating advocacy letters sharing their experiences and advocating for the continuation of Wisconsin’s Child Care Counts Stabilization Program. The providers represented various members of the childcare community: one group childcare center administrator, and one family childcare provider from rural communities in our service delivery area.
The purpose of this initiative was to allow childcare providers the opportunity to attend the upcoming Child Care Advocacy Day, increase their understanding of how to connect with their local representatives and gain valuable advocacy resources.
Participants received advocacy training and shared their stories with state legislators. Funds were used to provide stipends to childcare providers to cover travel and food expenses during Child Care Advocacy Day. Child Care Resource & Referral staff utilized a portion of funds to cover travel costs for a staff member to accompany the childcare providers on April 5th’s Child Care Advocacy Day event.
The two childcare providers who attended expressed gratitude for the opportunity. A family childcare provider stated, “It was very interesting and eye-opening”. She had no formal advocacy training and was excited to share her passion for providing childcare while also getting connected to their legislators.
