“Young Children & COVID: Audrey Duck & Dr. Susan Linn Talk about Going Back to School”

Audrey Duck talks to Susan about her mixed feelings about returning to school after being home for a year and a half, due to COVID.  This seven-and-a-half minute video is designed to serve as a springboard for conversations between young children and their parents, teachers and caregivers about returning to classrooms in the age of COVID.  DEY has prepared a two-page document,  Guidelines for Parents and Teachers  with suggestions for facilitating the conversation after viewing the video.

DEY’s Co-Founder and Senior Advisor Nancy Carlsson-Paige discusses the reasons why she and Dr. Diane Levin felt the need to found Defending the Early Years in 2012.  She also talks about how DEY addresses current issues such as the pandemic and racism in order to provide resources for parents and teachers of young children; equity; meeting children where they are; helping kids build social skills; choosing open-ended toys, and the importance of play.
