39,000 Denver students attend schools that lack adequate mental health staff, study finds

This news article looks at a study from the advocacy organization A+ Colorado, in which research found that overall, public schools in Denver are not adequately staffed with mental health professionals. This was concluded based on the expert-to-student ratios recommended by the National Association of Social Workers, the National Association of School Nurses and the National Association of School Psychologists. According to the article, only 8 schools actually meet professional standards. The district in Denver has now approved spending $7 million to hire additional mental health ($3 million) and nursing ($4 million) personnel.
