Advocating for the development and implementation of data-driven public policies that improve child well-being in health, education, and early childhood.
By providing Coloradans with trusted data and research, and organizing an extensive state-wide network of dedicated child advocates, we work to achieve the following:
- Eliminate gaps in student achievement and health outcomes between children of color and children in low-income households and their peers.
- Provide all of Colorado’s young children with high quality early learning and development experiences so they are ready for school and on track for success in life.
- Secure quality, affordable health care and create healthy communities for all Colorado children.
- Ensure all students in Colorado have access to the quality K-12 education they need to graduate from high school prepared for college, careers, and life.
As the leading voice for Colorado’s children at the state Capitol and in communities across the state, the Children’s Campaign has been at the forefront of hundreds of policy wins for kids.
Among the numerous laws and programs we’ve helped establish are the Colorado Preschool Program, Child Health Plan Plus, the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, and the creation of the new state Department of Early Childhood.
The Colorado Children’s Campaign is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization.
Their advocacy focus is for “the development and implementation of data-driven public policies that improve child well-being in health, education and early childhood.”
The organization provides Coloradans with data and research on child well-being, and uses this information to work towards eliminating gaps in student achievement and health outcomes between low-income children and children of color and their peers.
Early childhood
When children and their families have access to quality, enriching early experiences, healthy beginnings, quality affordable child care and early childhood education, their long-term academic and life outcomes improve.
The investments we make between birth and age eight achieve some of the best financial and social returns, including healthier, happier children; a more educated population; and ultimately, a stronger and more stable economy for our state.
Three decades of research show that quality early childhood care and education contribute to the development of cognitive skills, social-emotional skills, and character skills including attentiveness, persistence, motivation, self-control, and teamwork.
We know that when children are ready for school before kindergarten, they are more likely to be successful students, read at grade level by the end of third grade, and graduate from high school on time.
What the Children’s Campaign is Doing
Because quality early childhood experiences are critical to promoting healthy children and families, educational success, and ultimately ending the cycle of poverty, the Children’s Campaign advocates strongly for expanded access to quality early childhood programs and continued improvements in program alignment and efficiency. Specifically, we are focused on the following policy priorities:
- Ensuring Access to High-Quality Child Care
- Building a Strong Early Childhood System
- Focusing On Early Literacy
- Ensuring School Readiness with High-Quality Preschool and Full-Day Kindergarten
- Investing in Infants and Toddlers
