A Sioux Falls couple are hoping to bring back the one-room schoolhouse model to build an innovative, mixed-age, learner-driven school on the south side of town. They plan to follow the model of Action Academies, a “worldwide network of more than 240 private schools accredited by the International Association of Learner Driven Schools.” And with this model, standardized testing is optional. In light of the pandemic and the US Department of Education’s choice to continue with standardized testing in Spring of 2021, the couple hopes that their new education model will positively impact other students and their own children as well.
