Equitable Access to Nature & Play

Duluth Preschool serves families with children 0-5 years old with home-based programming, support for families experiencing homelessness and preschool programming in 15 classrooms in 7 Duluth Public Elementary Schools.  Our program is funded primarily through federal and state Head Start grants and state universal prek monies and serve families from all economic backgrounds, though priority is given to families that meet Head Start enrollment guidelines.  Duluth and surrounding communities have a wealth of amazing nature and play-based programming available to families.  However, these programs are often inaccessible to some families due to tuition costs, lack of transportation and other factors.  Duluth Preschool strives to provide equitable programming for all children in our community.  We have installed playscapes at our most urban elementary schools that had little to no greenspace and provide support and professional development to our staff to incorporate nature and play-based opportunities for children and families.
