Finding time for play

This article, written by a graduate student, shares the author’s experience in a kindergarten classroom. A significant theme of the article is the ways in which academic standards and play are often at odds with each other, especially because kindergarten is a part of both early childhood education and K-12 schools. Greater time dedicated to academic content leads to less time for play, and the role of academic pressures is often associated with stress–whereas play is often considered a stress coping mechanism.
