This article discusses how the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS, the state-mandated standardized test) will continue to be used in schools during the pandemic. Although education officials are modifying the test and “the results from this year’s tests will not be used to declare any school or district as underperforming”, the use of the test is questionable: different districts throughout the state have followed different models thus far, some being hybrid and others fully online. Students beginning in grade 3 will be taking the test this spring, with modified ways to take the test either at home or at school depending on the students age/grade.
