Michigan asking feds to cancel standardized tests after a year of inconsistent education

This news article addresses standardized testing in Michigan during the pandemic and hybrid/remote learning. Some school board leaders are advocating for the use of standardized testing in the spring of 2021 to measure the amount of learning loss due to the pandemic, whereas others are advocating against spring testing to mitigate the stress that students are already experiencing. According to the article, state superintendent Micheal Rice has requested that the federal government waive standardized testing in 2021. The Michigan Education Association is urging the US Department of Education to grant the waiver as well.
