State officials have confirmed that they are “seeking permission from federal officials to waive standardized reading, math and science testing for another year.” Officials argue that students and teachers have been “surviving a pandemic, and they need to be given the time and space to process the learning that has occurred since in-person schooling stopped.” Some fear that students who get low results on these high stake tests may be held back or denied access to advanced classes unfairly. School administrators are also concerned about parents helping their children too much during remote assessments, particularly with younger students.
