Pennsylvania House passes bill to fund Head Start programs

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives on July 7 passed a bill that will continue to fund the state’s Pre-K Counts program even if federal Head Start funding is eliminated.

Head Start has come under threat by the Trump administration in recent months. While funding remains in place for the free federal child care program in Trump’s current 2025-2026 fiscal year budget proposal, an earlier version of that proposal would have completely eliminated the funding. The White House also caused massive disruption to Head Start with a funding freeze earlier this year and with cuts to federal Head Start offices.
