Researchers: Native youth need culturally-relevant education

This article discusses the need for culturally relevant educational practices in schools across New Mexico, particularly in communities with Native children. The pandemic has exacerbated educational challenges faced by Indigenous youth, and the “need to be taught in a way that makes them feel valued” is greater than ever. The article further discusses Native students access to educational resources. Some companies have expanded wifi networks on tribal land to help with remote learning. The Central Consolidated School District, where the student population is 90% Native American, has spent $3 million on computers and $500,000 to increase internet bandwidth so students can access remote classes.
