South Dakota Senate Bill 117

This bill, if passed, would have required the Department of Education to take necessary steps and establish programs for children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Programs and regulations introduced in the bill include appropriate educational materials, proper training for teachers, psychologists, speech therapists, and administrators who work with children that are deaf or hard of hearing, equitable access to all components of the educational processes including recess, lunch, and extracurriculars, and programs in which vocational needs of deaf or hard of hearing children are being met (including appropriate research, curricula, programs, staff and outreach).
