The project aim was to improve on how children learn in primary schools by promoting, increasing and sustaining the use of learning through play techniques by teachers, parents, education managers who surround and interact with refugee children at school, home and in refugee camps. The project is about integrating the play matters in teaching and learning process using child-centered method as it was emphasized by Maria Montessori an Italian educator and also in United Nations Convention on the rights of the child, Article 31 that every child has the right to play thus “Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom” (George Washington Carver).
The project is targeting pupils of refugees in primary schools where settlement camps and host communities are located. The aim of the project is to address the skills resources and motivation educators need to implement strategies and practices into their daily teaching practice as well as apply techniques to reinforce the psycho-social well-being of learners and teachers themselves. It will include topics like material development and learning through plays.
The following were achieved by teacher during the training :
• Material development.
• Integration of learning through play matters.
• Strategies and practices of teaching.
• Teaching methods.
Mobilizing the teachers in November was a challenge because it was supposed to be the period for promotion examinations and National examinations for primary leaving examinations in Uganda, but all in all the training took place on 20th -24th /11/2024.
