Through holding corporations accountable and providing a new vision of childhood to families and teachers, CCFC works to “put kids’ well being first at home, in communities, and in corporate boardrooms.” The organization promotes what is best for children and their needs, rather than the corporate idea of what is best for profits. This includes promoting the idea of a commercial free childhood, in which children are seen as unique individuals and not as a mass market. CCFC believes in children being valued for who they are at heart, and not what marketing and advertising shapes their values to be. CCFC’s advocacy has included pushing companies like Nickelodeon, Hasbro, Amazon, and even the NFL to change their marketing practices to be less harmful to children, forcing Disney to refund families who purchased Baby Einstein after the efficacy of the videos were lied about, and even limiting data collection and targeted advertising on kid-directed content on platforms such as youtube and google.
