The Department of Children and Families launched New Jersey’s first Adverse Childhood Experiences Action Plan, a statewide strategy to prevent and reduce childhood trauma and adversity. The Plan’s goals are to “help children and families in New Jersey reach their full potential”, “continually develop resource programs and services based on research”, and “look at solutions based on community input that addresses root causes rather than symptoms”. This has implications on grassroots advocacy, as the State of New Jersey has pledged to actively work with NGOs, community-based organizations to gather information and develop programs to affect young children’s emotional, social, educational, and mental well-being.
